Gujarat, a vibrant state on India’s western coast, is not only known for its rich culture and historical heritage but also for its deeply rooted spiritual traditions. The state is home to some of the most revered and architecturally stunning Hindu Mandirs in Gujarat,  drawing millions of devotees and tourists every year. From ancient shrines perched on mountain peaks to coastal temples overlooking the Arabian Sea, Gujarat’s mandirs are a powerful testimony to the state’s enduring devotion to the divine.

1. Somnath Temple – The Eternal Shrine

One of the most iconic Hindu temples in India, the Somnath Temple is located in Prabhas Patan near Veraval. It is considered the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and holds a timeless significance in Hindu mythology. The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt several times in history, yet it stands today as a symbol of resilience and faith.

2. Dwarkadhish Temple – Kingdom of Krishna

Located in the city of Dwarka, the Dwarkadhish Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is believed to have ruled from this city. It is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites and a major spiritual destination for devotees of Krishna. The temple, with its majestic five-story structure, is an architectural marvel built on 72 pillars.

3. Khodiyar Mandir – Guardian Goddess of Gohils

The Shri Khodiyar Mandir, located in Rajpara near Bhavnagar, is dedicated to Khodiyar Mata, a powerful folk goddess revered especially by the Gohil dynasty and many Rajput and farming communities in Gujarat. Worshipped since the 13th century, Khodiyar Mata is seen as a protector, often depicted riding a crocodile—her divine mount. The original shrine was built by Maharaja Wakhatsinhji, and later expanded by Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji, who also developed nearby infrastructure including roads, a railway station, a hospital, and a water system to support the growing number of pilgrims. In 1953, the Shri Khodiyar Mandir Trust was established to manage temple affairs. Today, the temple is a major pilgrimage site and continues to be overseen by the Gohil royal family, preserving its sacred and cultural heritage.
